Remains Nonviewable highlights
the Effigies' first lineup, which lasted through the release of 1984's
For Ever Grounded, including both sides of the incredible "Bodybag"
single. Whether matching
Minor Threat's hardcore vengeance ("Strong Box"),
Killing Joke's danceable fury ("Security"), or the Ruts' blinding
musicianship ("Below the Drop"), this compilation puts a steel-toe in the heinie
of the younger folks who think it doesn't get any better than
Rancid. Though it's missing a couple of early gems ("Tight and Blue Cut,"
"Rather See None"), it makes for an excellent consolation for late comers, since
their entire discography has been out of print for years. Reissued by Touch and
Go in 1995, Remains Nonviewable is 40 minutes of the most incendiary,
intelligent, and expertly executed punk you will ever hear. Infinite substance
and zero pose. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
